What should I look for in a hot tub?
Size and price are the two of the main determining factors when choosing a hot tub. Once you have a budget in place, measure your space to determine what size of hot tub you will need. Next, it’s time to think about the type of jets and massage you want and seating capacity. With your wish list in place, it’s time to see your local hot tub dealer. Our experts at Twin City Jacuzzi will not only help you to find spas in your price range, but can also offer advice on the models that will work best for both your space and needs.

Should I install an in-ground or portable hot tub?
Both above-ground and in-ground hot tub installations have advantages. In most cases, it comes down to personal preference. All our hot tubs for sale can be placed on a patio or installed underground. Another option is to build a deck surround for your spa. Any of these alternatives can work well depending on the layout of your backyard. Portable spas are also easy to maintain and come with a variety of seating and jet options. In-ground hot tubs are the ideal choice if you want your spa to blend into your landscaping. They come in a number of different shapes and sizes and usually offer bench seating and various jet configurations.
Should I install my hot tub inside or outside?
Again, this is a decision that comes down to personal preference — and budget. Unless your house already boasts a large well-ventilated room with ample entries, an outdoor installation will be more economical. Outdoor hot tubs have the advantage of fresh air, backyard ambiance and an overall easier installation. If you have or are planning to build a room to house a hot tub, however, privacy and easier maintenance are big pluses. Keep in mind, hot tubs are bulky and will not fit through most standard doorways, so if you are building a new room for your spa, have the unit delivered before the last wall goes up.
Can I leave my hot tub running all the time?
There is no simple answer to this question. The amount of water circulation required would depend on the type of hot tub you purchased. It is safe to say, however, that you absolutely cannot allow water to sit until it stagnates. This will breed bacteria, even if you are using your hot tub chemicals weekly. Your best bet is to follow manufacturer recommendations on how often to run your pump or leave it on an energy-saving setting to save on monthly operating costs.
How often should I change my hot tub filter?
If you faithfully clean your filter as per manufacturer instructions, there is no reason why your filter will not last at least one to two years, even if you use your hot tub every day. We recommend cleaning it with water from your hose or sink and a cleaning solution twice a month. You should also aim to soak the filter overnight in a bucket of water that dilutes a cleaning solution about six times a year, or every two months.
Can swim spas be used as hot tubs?
Yes, your swim spa can be used as a hot tub. Many swim spa models come with dual-zone heating, allowing one end to be heated for relaxing, while the other remains cool for swimming or exercise. The heated end, like a hot tub, has massaging jets and hydrotherapy seating. Check out the great options that Twin City Jacuzzi
Can swim spas be used in the winter?
You can use your swim spa 365 days a year, even on the coldest of winter days. A high-quality swim spa will be both well insulated and energy efficient, with the ability to recycle heat — and that means lower utility bills for you. To aid in its efficiency, consider investing in an insulating cover. This will not only help to keep the water warm and clean, it will protect your spa from the elements. If you do plan to use your spa throughout the winter, be sure that you keep it heated at all times to prevent freezing. If water is allowed to freeze, your spa could crack or sustain other serious damage. If you don’t plan to use your spa in the colder months, drain it before the temperature dips below the freezing mark.
Can swim spas be in-ground?
Swim spas can be installed both above and below ground. Installing the spa below ground is a great option if you want it to blend into your current landscaping.
Can I exercise in my swim spa?
No matter what your fitness goals are, a swim spa can help you achieve them. The biggest advantage of swim spa fitness is the elimination of impact on your joints, saving you from knee and hip pain. Your swim spa can be used for a variety of low-impact exercises, from swimming, to jogging, to yoga. Swim spas are also a great place to perform moves that combine cardio and strength training, such as squats, leg raises, crunches or torso twists. And don’t forget to add some stretches. Stretching in the water helps to extend your movements, increasing range of motion and flexibility over time.
Consult a physician before starting any fitness regimen to ensure your best health.
WHAT HOT TUB SHOULD I BUY?
Before buying a hot tub, you should consider the size, cost, number of seats, added features, brand, and age of the spa. The hot tub should be able to accommodate your immediate family. Before visiting your local hot tub dealership, create an honest and fair budget, covering both short-term and long-term financial expenses.
Your expenses may include:
• Hot tub
• Installation and delivery
• Hot Tub chemicals
• Service, maintenance and repair
• Hot tub accessories
• Replacement parts
• Operational costs
Once you’ve decided which model or brand you would like, we recommend scheduling a wet test. Many hot tub dealerships will have a few fully-functional and running models on the floor, solely for this purpose. Give your hot tub dealer a call to schedule your wet test. We recommend sitting in the hot tub for at least 15 minutes, which is enough time for your body to relax and explore the different functions and features available.
HOW MUCH DO HOT TUBS AND SWIM SPAS COST?
The cost of a hot tub or swim spa will depend on the brand, model, size, location, age, and features. Generally, hot tubs can range anywhere from $3,000 to $20,000, whereas swim spas can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $30,000. Before you opt for a hot tub solely because of a low price point, keep in mind that you get what you pay for. A cheap hot tub or swim spa may seem like a great idea at first, but you might end up with a spa that only lasts a couple years, requires many repairs, and doesn’t offer a great hydrotherapy experience. By paying a little more upfront, you’ll likely find yourself investing in a system that has many years of enjoyable hydrotherapy to offer.

SHOULD I INSTALL MY HOT TUB INSIDE OR OUTSIDE?
Hot tubs can be installed both outside and inside. Outdoor hot tub installations maintain popularity, as a spa can be included in an overall backyard project or outdoor oasis. Indoor hot tub installations are ideal for those with limited backyard space, homeowners who value privacy, or those who would like to include a hot tub as part of their indoor health and wellness area.
Outdoor hot tub installations require:
• A reliable source of electricity
• Proper drainage in place for the backyard
• Protection from the elements
• A tall and sturdy fence for safety
• A strong foundation
Indoor hot tub installations require:
• An entry point that is big enough to fit the hot tub
• Proper ventilation for the moisture and humidity
• Proper safety precautions
• A reliable source of electricity
DO I NEED TO INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL PLUMBING SYSTEM?
No. All above-ground portable spas are filled with water using a garden hose.
HOW DO I CLEAN MY HOT TUB WATER?
How you clean the water inside your hot tub depends on the brand and model. As a general rule of thumb, you should aim to test and balance your spa water on a weekly basis, paying attention to how the system is operating and noting if anything changes. Once every three to four months, you should change the water completely. We recommend scheduling a hot tub service appointment at least twice a year to ensure that the system is operating efficiently.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY HOT TUB WATER?
You should change the water in your hot tub once every three to four months. Factors such as how the water is maintained and how frequently the spa is used can have an effect on how often the water should be changed.
ARE HOT TUBS FULLY-FOAM INSULATED?
Most hot tubs will be equipped with insulation. We recommend speaking with a hot tub expert at your local dealer to learn more about the insulation for each individual model. Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs in particular, come fully-equipped with full-foam insulation. This can help to conserve energy and reduce heating costs by maintaining the water temperature and preventing any warmth from escaping or cold from entering.
HOW DO I CHANGE THE TEMPERATURE IN MY HOT TUB?
You can control your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub using the control panel or with the Jacuzzi® ProLink App on your smartphone. Most quality spas will offer a control panel similar to the one integrated within Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs, but not all hot tub brands offer Bluetooth technology or connected mobile apps. While looking for hot tubs for sale, be sure to ask your dealer about this.
WHAT IS HYDROTHERAPY?
is a water-based therapeutic technique that utilizes the combination of heat, buoyancy and massage. The heat of the water helps relax the body, as the buoyancy helps to lift up to 90% of the weight from sore muscles and joints. Once in a state of pure relaxation, the hydrotherapy jets can really take effect and offer lasting relief for tense muscles and sore joints.
Hydrotherapy has been shown to offer the following benefits:
• Relieved muscle tension
• Soothed joint pain
• Less stress
• Better sleep patterns
• Improved post-injury recovery
Other water-based therapeutic techniques
that can be used in combination with hydrotherapy include: aromatherapy, reflexology, yoga, watsu, and chromotherapy.
ARE HOT TUB JETS ADJUSTABLE?
Many hot tub jets installed in modern hot tubs are adjustable. This gives you many options when it comes to your hydrotherapy experience. The jets adjust from oscillating to targeted; rotate clockwise, counter-clockwise, or stationary. You can control the flow, volume, and movement of other jets as well. In addition, controlling the amount of air mixed with the water with the air control valves changes the dynamics of the massage. Conveniently placed massage selectors let you divert water from one seat to another to increase or minimize the water flow.
WHAT IS THE CLEARRAY® UV-C WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM?
Cutting-edge and patented, the CLEARRAY® UV-C Water Purification System offers a clean and clear hot tub experience every day. The UV-C technology neutralizes waterborne pathogens and helps to reduce the amount of sanitizer and water care products that are used. Jacuzzi® Hot Tub owners can enjoy clean, fresh and safe water, with a fraction of the work.
WHAT DOES A CIRCULATION PUMP DO?
The circulation pump keeps the water flowing throughout the hot tub, sending it through all of the different compartments and areas. This helps to evenly distribute water care products, regulate the temperature, filter the water, and enhance the overall spa experience.
HOW LONG BEFORE I WANT TO USE THE HOT TUB SHOULD I START HEATING IT?
Find a temperature that both you and your family enjoy, and keep your hot tub set at that temperature. Frequently raising and lowering the temperature, even by a few degrees, can put additional stress on the system. Rather than lowering heating bills, this can actually cost more money than it saves, both with replacement parts and upkeep of the system, and because of how much harder the system has to work to raise the temperature or lower it, rather than simply maintain it.
If you will be going away on vacation or won’t be using the spa as much during the summer months, lowering the temperature can prove to be a smart idea. There are even energy-efficient modes that you can turn on.
HOW CAN I MAKE MY HOT TUB INSTALLATION SAFE?
Ensuring a safe outdoor hot tub area begins with the installation. We recommend having your local hot tub dealership deliver and install the hot tub, while a trusted electrician ensures that the electrical system is secure. From there, patio furniture can be set in place to keep items off the ground, while exterior lights can be installed to illuminate the area, especially at night. Finally, never allow your hot tub to exceed a temperature of 104° F.
